The home of a Privateer!
The lePassage building has a colourfull background
Situated at the heart of Alderney's small and only town St Anne
They say that this building was built by a Privateer around 1840-1860 who had gotten rich by raiding the many French ships within easy reach of Alderney during the French Wars
During these long wars with France letters of marque and reprisal were issued by the English Crown as a license, authorising the Privateer to attack and capture vessels of a nation at war with the Crown.
This lucrative enterprise gave rise to riches in all of the Channel Islands
So who knows... there might still be a treasure dug down in the back of our Sculpture Gardens
Home of the presbytery
After the days of Privateering the building served as a Presbytery until the island was occupied by the Germans
After the war it was yet again turned into a Presbytery for many years
Often referred to as "The Old Presbytery"
Home (legal offices) to the President
In the early 1990s it was sold to The President of Alderney Mr John Kay-Mouat who also ran his legal offices out af the building
His wife Mrs Kay-Mouat who was an excellent and interesting artist, had her own art studio on the first floor in the building. lePassage is honoured to have one of her special works now hanging in the Conservatory
After the passing of Mr Kay-Mouat the building was more or less empty for a couple of years

By pure coincidence and not yet on the open market... I was able to acquire this absolutely lovely building in May 2019
This "lady" with its beautiful sculpture gardens... was just waiting for me to propose
When you are able to visit us... please not only take note of the building itself
On its side there is the beautiful Conservatory. Just renovated and waiting for you to relax in
On the back of the building you can walk into our truly beautiful Cloister Garden with unique dug down garden aisles. With time and patience this totally restored garden will feature plenty of Sculptures for your afternoon indulgence... again the perfect place to relax... perhaps sipping a glas of wine (on the house) under the Mulberry tree
